Tope Awotona is a Nigerian entrepreneur who is 40-years old. He founded the Calendly app and has been surveyed as one of the richest immigrants in the United States. He started this business some nine years ago in 2013 by investing his life savings of $200,000. Presently, this company has more than 10 million users & counting. The big customers of the Calendly app are Ancestry.com, Lyft, La-Z-Boy, and Indiana University.

Calendly was founded in Atlanta, and at the time of its inception, the company did not have a physical office. The company became profitable in 2016. They have recently raised a funding of $350 from Iconiq Capital and OpenView Venture Partners. Owatonna is one of the two Black billionaires on the tech front in the US, alongside David Steward, the 70-year-old founder of World Wide Technology, the Missouri-based IT services provider.

Owatonna had failed thrice before he succeeded by founding Calendly. He founded three different companies before Calendly, but he did not succeed in these businesses. There were sales of garden equipment, a dating website, and projectors sales. Finally, when he founded Calendly, his venture bore fruits.

Owatonna is now aiming at adding new features in Calendly. This will help Calendly to stand out very significantly amongst all its competitors. The new features will include international expansion, increased analytics, and the option of attaching applicants’ resumes to the calendars of the recruiters.
